Melissa Kiguwa’s background spans three continents— Europe, North America, and Africa, but she is currently based in Arizona where she is founder and CEO of break*through, an innovations company pioneering empathy-driven technologies that increase access to holistic wellbeing.

Before founding her company, Melissa worked as a radio and television host; a producer for both commercial and broadcast radio including the BBC World Service; and for Get Lifted, John Legend's production company.

Melissa is a 2020 PEN America Emerging Voices Fellow. Her first collection of poetry, “Reveries of Longing,” was published in 2014 and selected as one of "This is Africa’s 100 best books in fiction, poetry, memoir and non-fiction." In 2023, Melissa published “the*journal: a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure-Journal-for-Deep-Transformative-Change" with THE IDEALISTS. She is currently working on her first debut book and is represented by Janklow and Nesbit.

She graduated from the London School of Economics in 2015.
