“Hip hop culture has infiltrated the entire world, right? So today, when you think of what a Black person is anywhere in the world, even in Nigeria, most people’s consideration is influenced by hip hop even though hip hop started in one part of the world… Black American identity sits with all global Black identity. With startups and business, it’s the same thing. You have these software based, very operationally light businesses whose DNA stems from Silicon Valley. That DNA now pervades the entire global startup culture. The problem is in the States there’s a ton of infrastructure, yet, those models are what influence venture thinking all over the world.”
