“I never dated wealthy men. I was always into broke, narcissistic chefs, actors, and musicians in my 20s… guys with lots of tattoos… that was my type. Then I met my husband, Brian, who walked into my life… this totally normal, together, emotionally available, hugely financially successful, adorable guy and I fell in love with him. From day one, he was like, ‘We’re going to be equals. I don’t care if you make $40,000 a year and I make a million, you’ll contribute,’ and I always knew that. But in the back of my head I was like… well… I have this safety net if I need it. This was all unconscious. Long story short, I marry my husband and his entire income changes within the first month of us being married… And in a particular session in couple’s therapy (because we were going through it)… I realized and was able to say out loud that I was expecting my husband to rescue me financially and I actually had been seeking a man with money my whole life.”
